Shoosh doesn't collect, share or sell any personal information. It has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Everything it saves stays on your phone.
What Shoosh stores on your phone
To do its job, Shoosh keeps a small amount of information in the app's private storage on your device:
- the modes you create, with their names and durations;
- the timer that's running, including when it started and when it ends;
- how your sound was set before the timer started (ring mode, Do Not Disturb setting, and ring and notification volume), so it can put it back;
- the time you chose on the timer widget, and when Shoosh last checked for updates.
This information never leaves your phone, and Shoosh doesn't include it in device backups. Uninstalling Shoosh, or clearing its storage in Android's settings, deletes all of it.
Network connections
Shoosh connects to the internet only to keep itself up to date. When you open the app, at most once every six hours, it asks GitHub whether a newer version has been released. If you tap Update, it downloads the new version from GitHub.
These requests go to GitHub (api.github.com and github.com) and include the Shoosh version number. They don't include your name, contacts, location, modes or any other personal information. GitHub receives the standard technical details of any web request, such as your IP address, and handles them under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Shoosh's developer doesn't receive this information.
Permissions
Android asks you before Shoosh can use some of these, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings.
| Do Not Disturb access | Switches your phone to vibrate when a timer starts and back again when it ends. Shoosh doesn't read your notifications. |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Shows the countdown while a timer runs, with a button to turn your sound back on early. |
| Alarms and reminders | Turns your sound back on at exactly the right minute, even if your phone is asleep. |
| Run at startup | Keeps a running timer going if your phone restarts. |
| Foreground service | Runs for under a second when a timer ends, because Android 17 only lets apps change sound settings while one is running. |
| Internet | Checks GitHub for a newer version of Shoosh and downloads it when you tap Update. Nothing else. |
| Install updates | Installs a new version of Shoosh when you tap Update. Android only accepts it if it's signed by the same developer. |
